About Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a treatment consisting of a series of gentle rolling moves which work on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. There are frequent pauses between each set of moves, allowing the body time to process what is being done to it. The Bowen Technique balances and stimulates the body, with the restorative process beginning once the body is relaxed.

Bowen Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of physical and mental health conditions

  • Physical problems such as back pain
  • Hamstring tightness or sports injuries
  • Neck problems
  • Sciatic pain
  • Kidney/bladder issues
  • Digestive problems
  • Knee, ankle or foot problems including plantar fasciitis
  • Asthma/respiratory difficulties including TMJ issues
  • Frozen shoulder/tennis/golfers elbow
  • Stress, anxiety, grief and depression
  • Fibromyalgia, low energy and general tiredness
  • Relaxation issues including sleep problems

Susan Hyde

Susan Hyde is an accredited Bowen Therapist, is fully insured, and is a full member of The Bowen Association U.K. and the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. She is accredited by BAUK (The Bowen Association U.K.) and also by the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council), and is on the list of Accredited Therapists for Perth and Kinross Council. She is committed to constantly expanding and broadening her knowledge and experience by regularly attending continual professional development workshops.

Her approach to treatment is about working in a truly holistic way. If you come in with shoulder pain, she will try and establish where the pain is coming from rather than just treating the presenting issue. This way she can establish the root of the problem with the client, so as to develop a long term solution rather than a short term fix. Susan also provides advice on aftercare, so that the client is more empowered to take care of their own body when the treatment session has ended.

Susan finds people fascinating, and the reward of seeing others progress and achieve their potential is the driving force behind what she does. She has always worked with people with challenging issues and is fully aware of the link between an individuals’ physical and mental health.

  • A powerful therapy that may help many injuries, conditions and long standing complaints
  • The Bowen Technique is a gentle, non-invasive technique which stimulates the body’s own natural healing process
  • There is no vigorous manipulation
  • It may improve mobility, circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Substantial relief is often achieved after only one session
  • The Bowen Technique may help address both physical and emotional issues
  • Certified Practitioners are trained to Bowtech’s high standards, fully insured and are require to undertake 16 hours of Continuous Professional Development training every year

Bowen Therapy is referred to as a ‘complementary’ treatment meaning that it will enhance and complement other medical treatments. It should be noted however that having other physical therapies or treatments after the Bowen session can undermine the effectiveness of the Bowen work. It is preferable to wait at least a week before starting an alternative treatment.

Bowen practitioners can treat the body as a whole or target a specific problem, as they are able to pinpoint stress build-up in muscle groups, then treat and release this.
